5 Destinations Around the World for Coffee Lovers

Love coffee? Love to travel? You’re in good company! In honor of coffee lovers everywhere, we’ve compiled a list of destinations around the world that are known for having amazing coffee!

Italy

For true coffee aficionados, Italy won’t disappoint! Known as the capital of the world for coffee, the first European coffeehouse opened here in 1720. Originally called, “Alla Venezia Trionfante” (for Triumphant Venice), it’s since been changed to Caffè Florian after its owner, Floriano Francesconi. Headed to Venice? Caffé Florian takes inspiration from both past traditions as well as contemporary arts.

However, according to BBC Travel, its Trieste that earns the spot of Italy’s capital of coffee. Located on the northeast coast, it is the Mediterranean’s main coffee port. Other cities across Italy known for outstanding coffee include Rome, Florence, and Naples.

Jamaica

According to National Geographic Travel, the island’s Blue Mountains (which are the highest mountains in the Caribbean) are home to some of the world’s most prized coffee beans. If you’re looking for a tropical paradise that boasts gorgeous beaches and majestic waterfalls, Jamaica just might be your best destination.

In addition, Jamaica is also known for its thriving music (think Reggae and Reggae fusion), culture, rum, and foods like ackee and codfish, spicy jerk sauce, oxtail, and more. And as for their coffee? The famous Blue Mountain mild-tasting coffee beans lack bitterness for the perfect pick-me-up.

Turkey

Rich and highly caffeinated, Turkish coffee is a popular pick around the world. And, because its unfiltered, Turkish coffee contains higher beneficial compounds and therefore, more health benefits. Headed to Instanbul? One of the most popular cafes in Grand Bazaar is Şark Kahvesi. Other Turkish cities with amazing coffee include Balıkesir and Ankara.

One of Turkey’s favorite past times is Coffee Fortune Telling. In fact, Turkey has a rich history in Tasseography which involves using coffee grounds left over from unfiltered coffee to tell your fortune.

Colombia

It should come as no surprise that Columbia made the list of best destinations for coffee lovers. Columbia exports millions of bags of coffee each year and has been doing so for almost two centuries. In fact, coffee is their top export.

Geographically speaking, Columbia meets the criteria when it comes to growing great coffee. With its volcanic soil, perfect altitudes (between 1200-1800 meters), and climate conditions (lots of rain and no frost!), it’s no wonder people travel near and far to experience the perfect cup of joe. Have your sights set on Columbia? Depending on where you go, you’ll experience different coffee flavors. According to Columbia.co, there’s a coffee bean to suit every taste!

Yogurt Coffee

Vietnam

Vietnam follows Brazil in being the second largest producer of coffee across the globe. Home to the largest robusta origin, it accounts for 95% of Vietnam’s coffee, with the Central Highlands region producing 80%. The other 5% is arabica coffee which can be found in Arabica farms scattered across the north and south of the country.

When it comes to finding a great cup of coffee in Vietnam, you don’t have to go far. You’ll find coffeehouses or cafes on every street in every city! And, according to Vietnam.travel, these are the top five Vietnamese coffees worth trying:
